I wrote this for our middle schoolers a few weeks ago to use in their Sunday morning small group. It’s a discussion that focuses on doubt and faith, and that we can trust in God.

  1. Lucy taunts Charlie Brown to run and kick the football. Why does Charlie Brown hesitate about kicking the football?
  1. Lucy convinces Charlie Brown to kick the football by saying, “This time you can trust me.” What was her reason that he could trust her?
  1. Why is it hard to trust people? Is it hard to trust God? Why or why not?
  1. Linus believes in the Great Pumpkin, even though no one else does. Have you ever been in a situation where you believed in something that others did not? What was that like?
  1. Read 2 Corinthians 5:6-7. What is Paul saying in these verses?
  1. How much trust does it require to “walk by faith,” to believe without seeing?
  1. Lucy tells Linus, “You’re wasting your time. The Great Pumpkin is a fake!” How would you respond to Lucy if she were talking about God?
  1. Read Hebrews 11:1. What does it mean that the foundation of our faith is built on that which is not seen?
  1. When others make fun of Linus for waiting on the Great Pumpkin, Sally defends him. But after everyone else walks away, Sally expresses doubt. Have you ever doubted? Is it okay to doubt?
  1. Read Matthew 28:17. After Jesus resurrected and appeared the disciples, still some doubted. Doubting is a part of the faith journey. Why do we doubt?
  1. How does trusting in God help us handle our doubt?
